Interested in music from an early age, Chris got a degree in applied trombone from Virginia Commonwealth University. After college, Chris found gainful employment at Restoration Builders of Virginia, focused mainly on Richmond’s historic areas. This was the beginning of a lifelong interest in buildings, design, and the pursuit of building excellence. Since 1987, he’s restored old houses, made windows and doors, and matched historic millwork. He has designed and built kitchens, bathrooms, and additions, always searching for good designs and creative solutions.

As an editor/photographer at Fine Homebuilding Magazine in the early 2000s, Chris was particularly interested in promoting craftmanship, testing jobsite tools, and in furthering his knowledge of green building. Chris joined HVP in 2026 and lives in New Milford with his wife and two little dogs.
