Taking a narrow, steeply sloping lot on the Housatonic River (considered unbuildable for 50 years), and transforming it to accommodate this high-performance home, took creative collaboration between designer, homeowner and HVP. The owner chose custom additions to their Unity Plus home. Internal spaces were implemented by HVP, maintaining the low energy envelope, a hallmark of Unity. Civil engineering designed a winding driveway and retaining wall in order to site the home, pool, underground systems and solar panels. Everything was strategically planned and considered before starting work. It was this early collaboration that was key to seeing the final design reflected in its stunning location, all engineered to fit within limited spacing.
